There's nothing quite like the experience of having a new baby in the house. For about one out of every two parents, however, that joy is disturbed by a baby that has colic. Although there is nothing that really can be done to console a baby with this condition, it's not really something that you should be overly worried about. The fact of the matter is that babies that have colic actually grow normally, much the same as many other children. You should, however, make sure that there are not any underlying causes that should be of concern.
Unfortunately, medical science has been unable to pinpoint any one particular thing that causes colic in babies. Therefore, they are unable to offer any colic relief for you in the form of medication. They have tried various forms of medicine but each one of them carries more of a risk than the colic itself. They didn't work all that well anyway, so what's a parent to do? One of the best things that you can do is to try some form of natural colic relief to see if it will ease the burden the little bit.
Some of the things that many parents have found to help with a colicky baby have been a change in the diet, in the case of those women who are breast-feeding, holding the baby tight against her body and rocking them gently. Even singing softly to the baby can sometimes help. You're going to have to experiment to see if any one of these things will help your child overcome the colic but they are experiencing.
One of the best things that you can do, both for yourself and for the baby, is to take a break every once in awhile. It is a very stressful situation whenever your baby is crying for several hours during the day. Not only does it create stress for you, it also creates stress for the baby if you are feeling the strain of the situation. Find a trusted friend or family member that will be willing to take the child for short periods of time in order for you to be able to recuperate.
